Setting up recordings for clients audio requirements

How to set up new audio recording of a audiobook per authors requirements.

That’s a little open-ended.

Are you a voice performer? Why did the author pick you? Why aren’t they doing it themselves? “As read by the author” is a pretty good promotional element.

Will you be going for ACX - Audiobook Publication?

In general, the technical specifications, how loud, how noisy, etc are up to ACX, not you or the author. The theatrical presentation is where you sit with coffee and chat about how you read the work.

ACX has a hand in it. They don’t like distractions. Do you have any voice problems such as p-popping, essing-sibilance, lip-smacking, tongue-ticking, or glottal stops,? You can read through all that, but it’s going to be a ton of work in post-production editing.

I just know you’re waiting for me to tell you which microphone to buy.

I got one before that. You can get most microphones to work in a quiet, carpeted, echo-free room. Read “Studio.”

You can’t fix a bare room with wooden floors in post-production editing. That’s always going to sound like you’re recording in a kitchen.

Do you live in a part of the world that needs air conditioning? There was a recent poster that designed a complex series of filters and effects to get rid of his air conditioning noises. The object is not to spend a half-hour correcting your 30 minute presentation.

Can I buy the book on Amazon right now? That’s one of the ACX requirements. You can’t do this out of order.

You can’t read a cookbook.

So fill in the gaps. Why are you chosen to do this?
