I have used Audacity for many years, editing about 50 concert recordings per year.
Recently I updated Mac Pro 2019 to OS to 15.2, and Audacity 3.7.0.0.( If I try to use an earlier version of Audacity, I get a message to update to3.7.)
I have edited a new concert recording and Audacity appears to work OK, BUT no sound out of the Mac.
In OS 15.2 Settings>Sound, Alert Sound works. Also I have no problems with files from Logic Pro 11.1 and Pro Tools 2024. None of these sources need any Output or Input to be selected (Mac Settings>Sound>Output [Input]>Name).
BUT, I can’t hear anything from Audacity.
I checked that all Sharing & Permissions re OK.
Audacity>Preferences>Libraries shows FFmpeg Library Version: F(59.16.100),C(59.18.100),U(57.17.100). I tried to Locate and to Download, there was no indication. that anything happened.
On playing an Audacity file, the playback meter shows signals. Those signals are reflected in Mac Settings>Sound>Input>Pro Tools Audio Bridge 64>Input Level; though not in the other Inputs offered. But still no sound to External Headphones or Mac Pro Speakers.
It seems that Audacity 3.7 needs some sort of link or driver to talk to Mac Sound in OS15.2.
No. You get a message which informs you that a new version is available. You are always free to use an older version if that suits you better. You can skip the update, and you can even disable the update notice completely.
What is Pro Tools Audio Bridge? Why not just select the Mac’s internal speakers? Or any speakers attached to the Mac via USB or via the sound-out connector?
I didn’t try to select the playback device because I have never had to, Audacity has always worked for me every time I updated over the years. I was diverted by the inputs offered to me by the Mac OS having updated the OS.
Pro Tools Audio Bridge is part of Pro Tools, another DAW that I have used.
I was trying to use Mac’s External Headphones, or Mac’s internal speakers, but they didn’t work because I hadn’t selected Audacity’s Playback Device which, I didn’t know existed.
Anyhow everything works well now, and again, many thanks.
