Selection Tool Issues for edits

Running 3.7.5 on Mac OS Sequoia 15.6.1

I can’t seem to get the selection tool to be precise.

So for example if I want to place my cursor right up close to some speech so I can insert a new clip, it’s like there is a buffer around the clip and I can’t get tight to it, leaving gaps.

I have no idea why but the cursor is no longer a straight line, it becomes a bracket when i’m trying to do precise edits and won’t let me sleect an exact spot to park my cursor and insert a new file.

Make sure that snapping is turned off.

Could you post a screen shot showing the cursor in a bracket shape?
