Selecting the Record input on a Macbook Air 2013

I am trying to record off of my Macbook’s speaker output. I can do this on my desktop PC.
On the Macbook the only choices for Recording Device are Built-in microphone, MJAudioRecorder, MMAudio Device, and MMAudio Device (UI Sounds).

Is what I want to do even possible on the Macbook?
If yes what are the steps or possible work around to accomplish my goal?

Not straight out of the box Mac, no. Macs don’t have internal tools and services to cross-over sound channels.

I used Soundflower for a while and I think the last software was iShowU Audio Capture.

Soundflower was on vacation for a while and it looked like they were just going to stay that way. Then I got a note that they had a new version available.

Following that link leads to a page that points you to a GitHub page.
On that page there is a link to a “signed installer” for “macOS Big Sur (11.1) and earlier”. If you have updated past 11.1 it may not work.

A more up-to-date option is Blackhole: GitHub - ExistentialAudio/BlackHole: BlackHole is a modern macOS audio loopback driver that allows applications to pass audio to other applications with zero additional latency. . Reports on the forum are positive. It is compatible with macOS 10.10 Yosemite and newer.

Rogue Amoeba sells Audio Hijack which is dead simple to use. It captures the audio in a file format of your choice which you can then import into Audacity for editing. It is not cheap. If you are running macOS 11, you’ll need a “legacy version”

And if you get any of this to work, post back how you did it. Remember, Forum, not Help Desk.
