Selecting a Region in a Track for Actions

This is a basic question and I am baffled that I am still struglling with these kinds of UI issues after 20+ years of using Audacity.

1. have a track say AA. I al;o have a lebal track LL.
2. I carefully created a labelled region RR which creates a perfect loop region in AA for me.
3. I want click on RR and I have that region selected in AA.
4. Now I want to copy that section in AA and paste on to a new track.

Audacity insists on copying the LL as well and so I get an error message to the effect … what you are copying spans more than one track,

5. How do I deselect LL but keep the selected region in AA?

Moment I click on the left region in AA track, the whole track gets selected and the region RR is lost.

6. Please do not give me other ways to do this. I will figure those out.

7. The question is about this basic editing procedure.

Focus on why this procedure is not working and what am I doing wrong.
I consider this as a basic core operation in editing .. and so writing this post.

8. A few other things…

Is there a Menu Command for Deselecting a Track?
While posting this topic I also do not see a tag/label “Editing Related” and quite surprised.
