Sample rates with digital input

Hello, First post here, although been a long time user. I’ve looked for an answer to my specific question, but haven’t been able to find one. Apologies if it’s already been asked and I’ve missed it.

When I record from a digital source, whether S-PDIF or AES-EBU, with, say a sample rate of 44.1kHz, but the project rate is 48k, what sample rate gets recorded? Does Audacity perform SRC, or does the 44.1k original stream get recorded?

As a supplement to this, I occasionally have to record a digital stream where the sample rate is unknown, so it would be good to know how Audacity handles digital inputs. So far I’ve managed to find out what the incoming sample rate will be and set the project Rate to be the same, but that’s not always been possible.

With thanks

S.

I’m not sure but if you click the 2 dots to the left of the waveform, a menu will drop-down and at the bottom of the list you can select Rate and it will show you the current sample rate of the data.

My guess is the project rate will be ignored…
