My computer shut down before I could save a project. Message says I schould retrieve temporary files by hand. Where can I find these, how to repaire?

If this was not a loss of mains or battery power, I suggest you check if there is a problem with your computer drivers :

That message suggests you are using an obsolete 1.2 version of Audacity. See “Audacity 1.2.x and 1.3.x are obsolete and no longer supported” at the top of the page. You can get the latest Audacity 2.0.3 here Audacity ® | Downloads .
To recover the 1.2 project, you can use the 1.2 recovery utility to make a WAV file (or one WAV for left channel and one WAV for right channel if it is a stereo file). Please see Missing features - Audacity Support .
