Recordings sound like tapping

Dell Inspiron 15, 3000 series
OS Windows 10
Audacity 2.4.1
2 input devices (Realtek Audio microphone and Realtek Audio stereo speaker, both are enabled)

Anything I record sounds extremely low during the playback and like a tapping noise. I have no idea what the problem could be. Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Accidentally recording from the computer’s internal mic ?, (& the tapping is the hard-drive noises ?).

Possibly… what can I do to see if that’s the problem?

If you are trying to use an external microphone you have to enable it in Windows audio devices,
then select it as the recording device in Audacity preferences: devices …

I misread your first reply, sorry about that. I’m not accidentally recording with my computer’s internal mic, I’m purposely using that mic because I don’t have an external one.

Inevitably the internal mic will pick-up the sound of the computer hard-drive & fan.

Never had a problem with it until now so I guess I’ll have to use an external mic. Thank you again.
