Recording without a recording device

I have a Lenovo laptop and no recording device. Do I need one to record using audacity?

What would you like to record?

I think you can capture on-line content without too much trouble and your laptop probably has a microphone. If you have a quiet, echo-free room, you can do well with that.

I’d like to record my guitar and piano but when I press the record button it says unanticipated error -9999.

Hello, if you apply this recipe you will not get the error - 9999 warning, I tried it on my own win7 computer, I did not get an error on my first try, I reversed this setting to understand your problem and got the error - 9999 warning, what you need to do
1- Go to (SOUND) settings from the control panel
2- Click on the (RECORDING) tab from the menu that opens, there should be
(Stereo Mix) in the list, if your sound card does not have this feature, it will not work,
(my sound card also has this feature) you need to ENABLE this, I will add a photo recipe for you, I use TURKISH on my computer but it will not be a problem for you, you can do it by seeing with the photo recipe, if your computer has this feature, if there is a sound (you will see a spectrum moving up and down), if there are distortions in your sound recording, make the sound settings from the recipe in photo 3.
