Hello - I have tried searching the forum for previous posts and answers to this, but they all seem closed after 30 days. I have added a Soundblaster AE-9 and cannot make it record using a variety of configurations as described in Help. Previously I had a RealTek. I use Windows 11 and all drivers are up to date as is Audaccity. But the only thing that works is “What You Hear” which is not ideal given that system sounds are recorded along with the input. But the other configurations do not provide any sound at all. On some settings I get the 9997 error, but all sample settings are consistent (I think…) Again, I tried to find other posts regarding this, but they all seem to be closed after 30 days. I appreciate any insights or help.
Let’s start with… What are you trying to record from? The soundcard’s mic or line input?
Thank you. I’m trying to record from internet stream. Before new card the settings were WASAPI, with input set to speakers (loopback). Now that doesn’t work. The other combinations don’t either except for “what you hear”. Thanks for the reply!
Strange… WASAPI loopback usually works as long as the sound is coming out of the selected soundcard/device.
If the RealTek is still installed, make sure that you’ve selected the Soundblaster, and make sure your speakers are plugged-into the Soundblaster and that’s where the sound is going.
WASAPI loopback also captures what’s coming out of your soundcard (rather than one analog input) so it should work the same way.
What-U-Hear is becoming rare, so be happy you have it!
Thank you. Yes, the speakers are connected to the Soundblaster card. But I keep getting the error 9997 about sample rate. I’ve checked and all seems to be in order, but I must be missing somewhere in the OS or Audacity where the sample rate settings are not right. And of course, now I have to try and record frm vinyl to see if that still works! Thank you again.
More info on this - - In looking at OS settings (mixer) 'Speakers" are not listed as an option for an input source. So I am very confused now. Listed as inputs are: “Line In”, “Digital Audio SPDIF”, “Microphone”, “Aux”, “What U Hear”. So…anyone have any ideas on this? I see others have had issues with SB9, but those are closed and I can’t see if there are any resolutions. Thanks, all!
As a follow up - This morning I tried the vinyl capture process and it worked like it did with the old RealTek before I installed the SoundBlaster AE-9. So that is great news! But I am still stumped on why I can’t capture from a web stream like I should be able to. The “What U Hear” function is Ok I guess, except that sometimes I do other things on this PC while capturing…so I want to avoid extraneous sounds/beeps/bongs, etc. is your opinion that the sound quality on What U Hear is high enough and I should be happy to proceed this way? What are the resolutions others have found with this issue? Thanks!
