Recording through aux cable

Hello, I posted the same topic a while back, but my explanation might have been hard to understand.

Anyways…I want to record my instrument (bass) using only an amp and an aux cable. And no I don’t have an audio interface.

What I did was: Plugged bass to amp, plugged aux from amp to laptop mic jack.

At first I somehow managed to toggle with some settings on the device toolbar on audacity and got it to record through my aux cable. However I forgot how I even managed to do so and now I am not able to record through my aux cable.

Any solutions for this? Please help

What exactly is your “aux cable” ?

Is your computer a full size computer or a laptop?
What audio in / out connections does it have?

Hi thanks for replying,

Idk the brand, I bought my auxiliary cable at a dollar store. I think they are the normal 3.5 mm 2 black rings male to male aux cable.

my computer is a laptop.

my laptop has 2 jacks, 1 for headphone and 1 for microphone.

sorry i didn’t know there were many types of aux cables out there.

Windows will normally enable the mic socket when a jack plug is plugged into the socket.
In the Windows Sound control panel, you should be able to see a green meter bouncing when you play something into the mic socket. This page may help: https://www.maketecheasier.com/set-up-external-microphone-windows/

The link you gave me helped so much. Thank you for the help, I really appreciate it

I still don’t get how I managed to make it work the first time tho lol

Thanks again

I am having the same problem I think, Don’t know if I can record with just a standard AUX cable plugged into my audio device to laptop.

Why do you think you are having the same problem?
Why don’t you know if you can record with a standard AUX cable?
How can we help?
