Recording settings (compressor?) after windows update 2021

Dear all,
after the recent Windows update some days ago my music recordings with audacity sound terrible. It sounds as if the volume is zooming in and out. Maybe as if a very strong compressor is preset on any recording. Especially the high notes (flute) get dialled back and sound artificial and hollow. That’s why I suspect some kind of compressor. I tried different volume settings for the mic, but it seems all the same… There’s no overdrive while recording, the bar on the right is in the green zone.
I’m not sure if that’s a problem with audacity or with windows, but with the computer’s voice recorder things sound normal.
Any idea? All help is super welcome!

Make sure Windows “enhancements” are turned off.

Thanks, I’m actually pretty sure that’s the problem, because I remember that I had to turn sth like that off when I started recording with that notebook. But: They are GONE from all the panels, there’s nowhere to switch them off.
I googled that, seems like that can happen after an update. I’ll have to find out, how to install that panel again, I guess…
Ugh, I’m really not loving that kind of problems! :unamused:
Thanks for your answer!
