recording midi

Ihave a mac…10.13.6 and an alesis Q25 midi keyboard…how do I get audacity to see the midi keyboard…

Doesn’t it come with Abelton Live?

I haven’t seen it…and I’m assuming yo u mean audacity…not the mac…

No. The Alesis keyboard comes with sustain pedal, USB cable, and Ableton Live Lite Alesis Edition software.

Last I checked, Audacity won’t record direct from a MIDI keyboard because the connection isn’t sound. It’s keystrike data. So you have to either record the music in Something Else (Ableton), or use the computer MIDI Interpreter to convert the data into sound and then manage the pathways to record it in Audacity.

I record my keyboard headphone connection. That’s a lot simpler, but this keyboard doesn’t have one of those.

This is the Google hit. I think that’s still true.

Direct connection is a popular request.
