I am hoping for some suggestions. I am trying to record my heartbeat using a fetal monitor and audacity. I get a lot of static background. Is there a simple way to edit the results? Are there any other suggestions on recording a heartbeat? I understand an iphone works well. My smartphone microphone doesn’t seem to pick it up.

Years ago, I used a cheap 0.2W 2" speaker. The kind you find in very cheap radio’s. Fill the conus with liquid rubber. Works quite well.
If I needed to do that again today, I’d probably use an optical pickup. You can clip those around your finger. The speaker needs to be next to your heart to pick up a decent signal.

Does the fetal monitor have some kind of headphone connection (for regular stereo headphones)? Or is it acoustic?
If it’s an electrical headphone connection, you should be able to record exactly what you are hearing (assuming the connections are right).
