Recording from USB source

Hi, I’m on Windows 10 and Audacity 2.4.1. I’m new to audacity. With my iPad Pro (2018) I can plug a DAC into the USB C port and drive my analog headphones. But if I try to plug directly from the USB-C into the USB on the PC, Audacity does not recognise this as a valid recording source. (I don’t have Line In on the PC.) Am I doing something wrong? Why can’t I stay digital across this interface. It seems like I have to use my DAC and then an ADC like the Behringer UCA 202 to create a digital signal that Audacity recognises. Help!

Thanks, Andy

DAC = Digital to analog converter = analog output = analog playback.

ADC = Analog to digital converter = digital output = digital recording.

A regular soundcard or regular audio interface has both.

It seems like I have to use my DAC and then an ADC like the Behringer UCA 202 to create a digital signal that Audacity recognises.

I’m not sure what you’re trying to do but if you want to record with the iPad there should be an app for that. Then you can transfer the digital file to your computer if you wish.
