I’m not sure if this is the place for this question but I’m at a loss! In the past (older versions of audacity on a different system) I was able to play music and Audacity would record what was being played into a new file. I haven’t tried to do this in quite a while so perhaps things have changed. We currently have a Windows computer running Windows 11 which we run to our Berrhinger X-32 Compact board. I have a song that I need to record from our CD player (connected to the board) so that I can record only the left track (it’s a split track recording/CD). When I tried to do that I got a recording but it was VERY poor quality! Does anyone know what the best connection to the computer would be to improve the sound quality? I have tried recording through the microphone jack and the “line in” but neither one gives me any better quality.
Line-in should work. It’s usually color-coded blue on a soundcard.
If you have a computer with a full soundcard it probably has a CD drive and you can “rip” the CD with CD ripping application. Then you can open the file in Audacity and kill the right channel.
I tried both the mic jack and the line in and both had terrible recordings! This computer doesn’t have a CD drive built in. We do have a separate CD drive plugged into a USB port. I’ll give that a try! Thanks!
