Recording electric guitar sounds worse than it did a couple of years ago

Hey guys, so I got into recording guitar a couple of years ago using Audacity, and didn’t really have any issues whatsoever. There were times were I had to adjust the amp specifically, or move my Yeti microphone in the proper position, but that was basically it, no big deal.

But fast forward to now, and the sound I’m hearing is just absolutely atrocious. What used to be nice, thick waveforms are now paper-thin & skinny. And the sound just constantly fades in and out, like there’s some type of threshold/noise suppression now, whereas before never even used to be the case.

I’m starting to wonder if it was caused by one of the few Windows updates that just randomly popped up a couple months ago. But if this were to be the case, I honestly have no clue how to even reverse this problem. I tried unchecking some boxes under the “Advanced” tab for the microphone, but still nothing. I’m actually just considering getting a new mic at this point, but hopefully one of you guys can help steer me in the right direction to correct this issue.

Once again, still just so confused as to why I had no problems in the past, but now suddenly it’s become the biggest mystery to me. And by the way, my voice recordings sound perfectly fine still, it just suddenly hates loud noises, apparently. Thanks to anyone who reads this btw & I look forward to your feedback.

Make sure Windows “enhancements” are turned OFF..

“Enhancements” tab can be next to the “Advanced” tab
enhance

Windows update can enable “audio enhancements”.
It’s just a matter of unchecking any ticked boxes in the enhancements tab.

Yeah, so mine does not have an “Enhancements” tab

There can be other layers of similar “audio enhancement”, they include “MaxxAudio” & “DTS”.

Ok, so I wanted to make one last post here to explain how I resolved this issue, and hopefully help anyone who may be running into a similar issue, since I noticed a few posts similar to mine.

Apparently (and this may have happened through some kind of software update), a feature called “Blue VO!CE” was activated against my will within the Logitech G HUB, which I didn’t even have downloaded. So I went ahead, and just simply unchecked the box that said “Enable Blue VO!CE”, and voila, back to normal again. And shout-out to my co-worker, Noah, for suggesting this to me, that is to download a separate software program to see if anything was changed within those settings. Because absolutely NOTHING was able to fix this within the Yeti Classic’s property settings in the Sound Control Panel on my PC.

So, for anyone struggling with this, I hope this helps. Because this was definitely a trip for me, i.e., asking co-workers if they had a microphone I could borrow, or just buying a new microphone altogether… yeah, I was definitely just ready to give up. And thank you again to DVDdoug & Trebor for your feedback & suggestions, respect!
