Recording eDrums while listening to song & capturing both

Hi there,

I’ve been struggling to figure out how to do what I want (maybe it isn’t possible or is ill-advised, not sure). Hoping someone can enlighten me (be patient – I’m not well versed in audio things).

Goal:
I have an electronic drum kit that is connected to my Windows PC via USB.
I want to play a song from the website drumeo.com, and I want to record both the song playing on drumeo as well as the drums I am playing at the same time. I also need to hear both the song and the drums I’m playing at the same time with no delay.

I have figured out how to capture the song from drumeo with Audacity, but it’s missing the drums. I have figured out how to capture the drums, but then I’m not capturing the song.

What I don’t want to do is listen to the song while I play and record only the drums and then have to go back and layer the drums over the song. I’d like to simply play along w/ the song, and hear both it and what I’m playing and have it all captured at once.

Is it possible?

Tutorial - Multi-track Overdubbing

Do the drums have a headphone jack or something so you can hear them without going through the computer?

There is always SOME latency (delay) through the computer. Sometimes the delay can be made short-enough so it’s not noticeable but it’s best if you can avoid monitoring through the computer.

There is a setting for Latency Compensation to keep the backing track and new track synchronized.

Yes, they have a headphone jack, but if I put headphones on that are connected to the drum module, how will I hear the song I’m trying to play along with? I’ll hear the drums just fine, but I need to be able to hear both.
