Occasionally Audacity records an incoming online stream at double the speed of the stream. That is, when the stream has reached 6 min, Audacity has reached 3 min of recording but at double speed (and garbled). If I re-try the stream, it will record fine. I don’t believe it is a problem with the stream.
This is an intermittent issue but I have had it for many versions of Audacity and across several machines. There is definitely something odd going on (I hesitate to use the bug word but I think it may be).
I can provide the Audacity reporting support info, a copy of an example recording and the link to the stream that produced it if people want it.
Any and all ideas welcome.
Version 3.7.7 on Win 11 Pro. Dell Latitude 7420, i7 chip.
For me, Audacity stops recording desktop audio via Windows WASAPI if there is no audio playing and stops if the audio playback stops. So something going on in the system can manipulate how Audacity behaves.
Perhaps there’s an issue with the audio device or its driver that upon starting first provides audio data at an incorrect sample rate.
I would try to restart the computer, update drivers (which could also make things worse), disable unused audio devices via Sound Settings or Sounds window or Device Manager or unplug them.
If you can work around the issue by always recording 1 second first, deleting it and then recording the real thing, maybe that’s the best workaround to get used to.
Is it always the same site eg YouTube or something? I don’t use Windows but I’ve never had this issue or seen other posts referring to it. If you have been using Audacity for ages, it’s not going to be lack of familiarity either.
If you have a Google account, maybe you could upload the project file and share the link to it. Also, post the link to the stream source so others can try it too.
