Recording audio into audacity

I have a mac book and I want to know if it’s possible tov record audio in audacity via the headphone socket using a 3.5mm microphone?

In the specifications for your macbook, does it say it has an audio input?

…I’m a Windows guy and you didn’t say which MacBook you have.

IF it has a combination microphone/headphone jack you need an adapter with a (4-conductor) TRRS connector, or a microphone/headset with that connector to make the microphone connection. (The headphone connection is also compatible with a regular 3-conductor TRS headphone plug.)

If you need more help, please tell us the model of your Mac and the model of microphone.

What he said. Mac connections changed a lot and you need to give us a push.

I’m typing on a 2013 Mac Mini. It has separate connections for stereo headphones and stereo recording like from a home music system. Similar to these two round things.

No microphone that I know of.

Or not. Apparently, there’s a microphone connection hiding behind the headphone socket.
