Recording a guitar through laptop microphone - not working

Later I will work on using my acoustic guitar’s pickups, but for now just trying to get ambient sound recording.

I can record my voice easily with various settings through the laptop’s mic such as:

  • Windows DirectSound
  • Primary Sound Capture Drive
  • Stereo
    Audacity 3.7.0

When I record my voice, all is well, but as soon as I strum the guitar, the waveforms shrink to almost nothing even though my guitar volume seems as load as my voice. When I play back, my voice is fine, but the guitar strums are muted and terrible quality.

Any ideas?

thanks

bob

Wow, thanks. That was exactly the problem!
