I have 2 mics plugged into 2 channels of my mixer. One is panned hard left. One is panned hard right. The output is stereo. The output of my mixer goes into an audio interface and then into the computer. I am using a desktop.
In the program I open 2 tracks . Both mono. I assign one to the left channel and the other to the right.
I enable both channels to record. But when I hit the record button it opens a new stereo track instead of letting me record to the 2 mono tracks.
What am I doing wrong.
I want to record to 2 mono channels so I can EQ and F/X each separately and then mix down to a stereo output.
On Windows, Audacity often treats two separate inputs as a single stereo pair because of driver limitations. You can record them together and then split them.
Set Up Channels: In the Audio Setup toolbar, set Recording Channels to 2 (Stereo) Recording Channels.
Record: Press Record. Your two inputs will appear as a single track with two waveforms (one for each input).
Split the Track: After recording, click the track name dropdown menu and select Split Stereo to Mono. This will turn the single stereo track into two independent mono tracks.
