Record audio sounds tinny on Linux Mint 22.0

Have just updated my computer to Mint 22.0 and Audacity 3.6.4. Amazingly, out of the box I can record speaker/microphone audio without having to fool around with everything. THANKS, big improvement from the past. The problem is the audio I record from the microphone, or youtube, sounds very tinny. It’s horrible quite frankly. Looking at the setting, I’m recording 44100.

Trying to import any audio from mp3 or mp4 files is not possible because it comes up and says I need to install ffmpeg, which I did as one of the first things after installing Mint 22.0. It shows I’m using 6.1.1-3.

I’m running Audacity from the AppImage as I have not figured out as of yet how to actually install audacity from the AppImage.

Just thinking the above two paragraphs may help to explain some of the problem.

I’m a Windows guy…

Your computer might have a “cheap microphone”…

Tap on the microphone, or shout or something, to make sure you are recording directly and not from the microphone. In case you haven’t found it: Recording Deskto Audio. (Windows, Mac, and Linux are all different.)

I don’t know about Linux but it may require a particular version of FFmpeg. (Windows requires a special Audacity version.)
