I am new in this forum and I wanted to thank the developers of Audacity for this great tool. Unfortunately I will beginn my forum-activity with a question (or even maybe a “bugreport”?) …

I have a 24 bit Wave File. I exported this file with my musicsoftware FL Studio and set the bitdepth to 24 bit. I loaded it into VLC Player and checked the codec information: it says 24 bit. Now when I am loading it into Audacity 2.0.4 it says 32 bit float. I also already changed the quality settings to 24 bit standard. Am I doing something wrong, or is this some kind of a bug?

No you are not doing anything wrong, Audacity has decided to always import 24-bit files at 32-bit resolution instead of 24-bit - even if default sample format (Quality Preferences) is 16-bit or 24-bit. I know of no necessary reason to always import 24-bit files as 32-bit, so you can request it be changed and we’ll count your vote towards it…
