Rapid fade to silence at last 1-2 seconds of file?

Hello all,

novice here. Windows 7 machine, Audacity version 2.3.0. I wish to splice together a number of songs, for a dance routine. I have been successful at creating the “chunks” I want, and linking them together. Some of the chunks have a natural fade to silence within the last 1-2 seconds of the song, but there is a chunk that I like to be able create a similar 1-2 second fade to silence, as I link the chunks together. Searching the forum with the phrase ‘how to make a rapid fade at song end’ resulted in a very technical and over my head discussion thread. Is there a relatively easy way to do this, or should I just be satisfied with a couple abrupt points in my composition?

Thank you in advance for any and all information you can give me.

Regards,
Dan

Audacity has a built-in fade-out effect …

fade out demo.gif

If the songs have the same BPM it is possible to cross-fade so the there is constant music,
but you’ll have to use time-shift tool to make the beats-match.

Hi Trebor,

that .gif was perfect! The fade-out tool was exactly what I needed. I saw that tool, but could not figure out how to use it, being the newbie that I am. Thank you again for the advice.

Best regards,
Dan
