Put together a playlist with silence

hello ,

I would like to put together various playlists ; when one song begins to fade away the other one ought to start from low volume to the normal one , no silence in other words
source is Tidal only to eventually end up on a reel to reel tape machine
please help , but if possible do it like for a kid in Kindergarten
thank you most kindly

crossfade ?.

thank you most kindly
does the same apply on a Mac , please ?

I’ve done what Trebor suggests to make a crossfaded CD from one big WAV file. With a CD you can have continuous sound with track markers wherever you want. But most “computer formats” (WAV, MP3, etc.) don’t allow for tracks or chapters.

A lot of media players have a crossfade option. I use Winamp with a 3rd-party smart crossfader plug-in. You can set a dB level where the next track starts as the current track fades-out and you use it with or without additional fading. I use a “DJ style” crossfade where the next song starts while the current one is fading-out “naturally” with no added fade-in or fade-out. If there is no natural fade-out, there is no overlap and no gap.

This particular plug-in can also be used as a “gap killer” with no crossfade.

Yes. You are creating a new file (WAV or MP3, etc.) and it’s going to play-back wherever you can play it. (If you are copying to analog tape, use WAV or FLAC. There’s no reason to use MP3 or other lossy format for temporary storage.)

thank you

please forgive some stupid questions
say : I download from Tidal 90 minutes of songs
do I have "to splice them " one by one ?
in the 70’s I was a disk jockey myself ; in them times we had to speak , to introduce the song , make jokes , intervene and sing along sometimes ,etc while crossfading from two record tables or tape machines , similar to Radio Caroline or Radio Luxembourg , etc
can Winamp help ?
crossfading 90 minutes of songs is a wee bit daunting task …
can you help please , some ideas ?

thank you most kindly

I forgot to mention but I’m close to seventy of age , and I’m trying to shut my eyes , listen to tapes and be for a short while back in my youth

Not really… Not unless you want to do it everyday. And you can skip to the beginning and end of songs. If you were going to do it everyday, once you got the hang of it you might be able to do it in less than 90 minutes.

Of course it does take 90 minutes to record to tape, but you can be doing something else.

But why the analog tape?

Well… You could digitize the songs you like, make a playlist, and play them in Winamp with the crossfade and record. Probably not worth it.

Winamp (or other player software with crossfading) is probably a better alternative to making a tape. You can have an unlimited number of songs in any order, or in random order.

iTunes can crossfade but it’s not “smart”.

Batch processing with an Audacity macro should be possible.
But it won’t be done with finesse like beatmatching.

Hi,
Given your background, I have a suggestion which I think would be much better than using Audacity. You will have fun doing it too, I think.
Download your chosen songs and put them in a folder first. Download and install Mixxx - a marvellous free DJing program. Set up Mixxx and choose your folder as the library source. Add the folder to the Auto DJ queue. I suggest changing the crossfade time from the default 10 secs to something like 2 or your preference. Enable Auto DJ and it will play through the playlist crossfading automatically. Once you have it working you can click the icon to record the set that is playing.
You will end up with a single WAV, FLAC or MP3 (you choose) with all your songs with crossfades. Simply play that and record it to your reel-to-reel. It sounds involved but it’s OK really. I’ve done it myself and I’m not a DJ. It is a blast.
If this appeals to you I will help you if I can. Just send me a private message. Alternatively, if that sounds like too much faff, you could share the music with me and I will assemble the finished article for you to record.
Best regards,
Mark B

blimey , what a wonderful soul you have !
thank you

I tried to PM you but I could not find the way
the idea was/is you put a list of five songs together , and “process” them to your liking
this in turn serves me as an example

if we can find a way to reward your time and effort , I’d rather you do it for a few tapes ;
no time limit , no nothing , all at your own discretion

maybe they will delete it , but here it is < winnie_bucur@yahoo.co.uk >

Winnie B. pls pron vinnie , it’s German

Find a post from @evilmrb , click his icon (the green disc with ‘E’) and a Message button will appear. Click it and follow your nose!

[/quote]I don’t think you can download from TIDAL so you’d still need Audacity to record and “steal” them (it is a copyright violation).

Of course there are alternatives like buying MP3s from Amazon or AACs from iTunes or ripping your CDs, etc.

Like I said, most audio-media players can crossfade. You’ve probably already got iTunes or Apple Music on your Mac and you can look-up how to turn-on crossfading (and how to make playlists, etc.).

That’s good to know.

That I did know but it’s academic since I’m not going to do it.

I don’t have a Mac. I hate Apple. The original poster is the one with the Mac.
Thanks for the nuggets.
