I’m working on a project (mostly vocals, but some very brief sound effects), the kind of thing I’ve done a lot of.
I’m using 3.7.1 (Windows) and have been since it was released.
There are four chapters of this thing, and I’m working on the 3rd one atm. All of them so far (only these files out of all the hundreds of others I’ve worked on) won’t compact when I save, so the files are growing enormous, over 10gb now when it should be well under 1gb.
Sometimes I get a notification that Audacity has crashed as I close it, but it won’t allow to send the report. When I open it again, it offers to restore the file from a snapshot.
I’m using punch copy/paste, as I usually would, fade in and out. The only thing I’m using more than I usually would in other projects is the Graphic EQ. I do use it in other things, and I’ve never noticed this be an issue before.
The only other thing that’s different about this project is I’m using my recorded vocal track alongside someone else’s vocal track that they sent me.
I work with this person’s vocals very often but only alongside mine maybe 5 times.
I’ve worked on other projects between chapter 2 and 3 of this one, and didn’t have this problem. I don’t know what might be causing this to happen, or how to stop it, or at least compact the file somehow. I’ve tried copying the whole thing into a new Audacity project and that just saved as an even bigger file.
Any suggestions would be great because I’m tearing my hair out!
