Not sure if it’s my laptop compatibility but when I try to use Audacity it will not import my songs…the same songs (mp3 and wav) that I am able to import on my other computer that has Audacity. I need to do screen recording on the laptop so I need to figure out why it’s not working. Anyone else have same problems?? It gets stuck at the part “Importing Files” with a busy bar and elapsed time has gone all the way up to 8 minutes. I don’t get an error it just looks like it gets stuck.
I am not really sure what you intend to do.
You’re talking about “screen recording” - a Mac can do this using QuickTime Player for video - but you’ll need additional software for getting the sound into the movie. One such software is “BlackHole” - it can be downloaded and used free. Audacity cannot do anything with video, however.
But you also write you want to import songs (in which format are they?).
So how does this go along with screen recording?
If you could explain in more detail what you intend to do (and how), maybe someone could help.
Sorry if that was confusing I don’t need Audacity for screen recording purposes…I just need to be able to use it on that particular computer. I have tried using MP3s, WAV files and the same music files work on my other computer loading into Audacity that’s why I can’t figure it out. Thank you for trying to help!
Music can be brought into Audacity by various methods.
- Import command in the File menu (which you probably tried)
- Open command in the File menu
- Drag the music file over the Audacity application icon
A “standard” installation of Audacity should be able to open/import music files. If you changed some settings during your trials, you can use the command “reset conviguration” from the “Tools” menu.
Is ffmpeg installed properly? It should be if you installed Audacity , but it might be missing for any unknown reason. Look at the settings for Audacity, there is a point “Libraries”, which should look like the image attached.
If ffmpeg is not installed properly, the “Download” button should direct you to this page with instructions what to do.
