I was hired for a videogame, and it was very exciting for me. They requested a live session. With Google Meet. I made sure everything was all set up before logging in. I had lots of problems with Google Meet and it was so embarassing for me. First my mic defaulted to the webcam, and it wouldn’t let me change that. The waveform was really small. We decided to get rid of the camera, and then I had to log out and get back into the meeting. I made sure my settings reflected the correct recording device, my Scarlett 2i2. But then something weird happened. My levels kept changing as soon as I started recording. Went from 95% to 40% or less! It was a nightmare. I really didn’t need to be live on the session, and it would have been fine if I just recorded the script and submitted, but I didn’t say that. It was so hard to do this. After the session I had to go through the whole file and change the amplification settings, bit by bit, which took forever. Then I ran it through the mastering chain and it sounds fine. How do I avoid this in the future, or how can I troubleshoot this and change settings beforehand. During the session I did a quick google search to see if it was a quick fix, but all that came up was to restart the computer. I didn’t want to do that - as it would have been the second time. I was so humiliated. The client was pleasant throughout, and she did mention she had some other people who had issues in the past. Luckily, my audiofile sound fine now, but it took a really long time to fix it up before submitting it. I appreciate any help or insights with this! Thanks.
Is this related to Audacity?
Check Windows “enhancements”. One of the enhancements" might be automatic volume control. Generally for high-quality recording we want them OFF so that Windows doesn’t monkey with the sound. But they are supposed to help with communications.
There are usually better ways of recording virtual meetings and video calls than with Audacity. Usually, with Audacity you can only get the local or remote side but not both. I found How To Record Google Meet
Thank you very much, but I don’t know how to find the Windows enhancements.
You don’t dare to click the links DVDdoug has given you?
Thanks, I’ll give it a try!!
