i’m having a problem connection my roland juno g.
i’m on a pc running windows.
the only thing that works is running a 1/4" from my headphone jack to the 1/8" audio input in the back of my cpu. this obviously isnt ideal because i dont have a splitter for this cable, so the only way of hearing is turning on the playback, and then i get a lag.
i have tried running 1/4" stereo to the 1/8" audio input, but this doesnt work. i also tried a usb cable, this also didnt work. i tried fiddling around with all the settings, no luck.
What did you mean exactly when you said that did not work - that it recorded silence?
Assuming the 1/8 inch input is a microphone input which is only meant for weak signals, using the line out of the keyboard is likely to be worse than using the headphones output of the keyboard. The line out will be stronger than headphones out and you probably won’t be able to change the line out volume level.
If you have a blue line-in 1/8 inch computer input separate from the pink 1/8 inch mic input then you can definitely use the line-in, except for the echo when you hear yourself while recording.
I suggest you turn Transport > Software Playthrough off in Audacity. Open Sounds and Audio Devices, click “Volume” under “Sound playback” then see if there is a slider for the 1/8 inch input you are connecting to. If so, unmute that slider and turn it up and you’ll be able to hear yourself as you record without delay.
thanks for info about the usb, i didnt know that. what about the 1/4" stereo to 1/8" audio input?
That should work.
Have you connected an amp to make sure you’re getting a signal out of those 1/4" jacks? Make sure you are connecting to a keyboard output, not an input.

it doesnt pick up any input… the monitor at the top of the audacity screen doesnt register anything…

hmmm… ok. my input is audio in/mic in combined, and i can select between the two on the computer. so i have been selecting the audio in when i use it, but still audacity registers no input.

ok thanks i will try that.

i am getting a signal out of the jacks, as i have successfully used them to go directly into a Pa system.

That’s excellent troubleshooting. That’s what we’d be doing. Dividing the system up into pieces and see which piece crashes.

Has it ever worked? We got a series of soundcards at work that looked great on the box printing, but neither I nor the world-class Systems people could ever get them to actually run. We ended slowly binning them all as each computer needed servicing.
So if it’s never worked, there’s a possibility it’s never going to work.
roland_dick said it worked if connecting from the headphones to the audio out/mic in (if that is what it is).
Even if it does work, using a mic input will be prone to distortion and may be mono. Perhaps it is even refusing the line out signal from the keyboard. Or perhaps you forgot to change it to mic in.
