Audacity works with Windows 8.
What are you trying to record?
hi Steve, Sorry for a delayed response,
trying to record some online religious hymns and prayers. but running Audacity 2.0.4 nor 2.0.0 just does not show any waveform (signs of recording under Edit/Preferences/Tracks). Has Realtek Audio card and drivers are working fine. can hear out thru’ my installed speakers. Using win8, has 1 TB space, 6 GB memory. Usually i used to install Audacity on a separate partition, rather than the Windows “C” drive. But even went ahead and uninstalled the audacity 2.0.4 and installed on “c” drive just for faster interaction. Am using Audacity for the past 7-8 years. thanks much. I truly appreciate any help/guidance you can provide here. best - raj.
Try upgrading to Audacity 2.0.5 and use the “WASAPI loopback” option.

Hi Steve, thanks for your reply and got the fix. Now, the recording happens but the sound is all in “echo”. Even while listening thru’ the PC stereo speakers during recording, it changes to “Echo” effect". what gives? pls. advice. much thanks -best, simsan
