I’m trying to install Audacity on an older iMac running 10.6.3. I found this file on the Legacy Mac page [Mac OS X 10.6: Audacity 2.2.2 (.dmg 32.7 MB)] which I downloaded. When I try to drag the Audacity folder from the DMG I get the message “The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “Audacity” can’t be read or written. (Error code -36)”. Any ideas?
See here for how to check that the downloaded DMG file is complete and correct: https://www.audacityteam.org/download/online-safety-when-downloading/#validate
The correct sha256 is:
According to the calculator, the checksum is correct.
What else can I do?
Do you have plenty of free space on your hard drive?
Have you tried checking the health of your hard drive?
Lots of HD room. Disk Utility says no problems. Permissions ok.
The installation instructions say not to launch Audacity from the dmg file. However after failing to install numerous times, I did try that and it worked. I was able to edit a file, save and reopen it. Not sure how that impacts anything.
