Problem: Error opening recording device

Earlier this year my wife successfully recorded from the PC with older versions of Audacity, but now using Audacity 3.1, suddenly she has been getting the following error message:

Error opening recording device.
Error code: 0 Success.

“timestamp”: 1635640628,

Suddenly no sound input (microphone icon) seems to be installed – that field is blank and there are no choices on dropdown menu.

In Manage Sound Devices, Choose your input device: The field says “No input devices found”.

In Windows 10 sound settings: “Test your microphone”, she clicked on “Troubleshoot”, and she could hear the sound on her PC. It ran a quick scan to troubleshoot, but the troubleshooter could not find the issue.

Any help or suggestions to remedy this problem would be appreciated. She is running Win10 with 16Gb RAM.

Somehow, after struggling for hours, by pure chance my wife found that the “recording device” input function of the Conexant device driver had somehow been disabled. She changed it to enable it, rebooted, and the input device (i.e., driver) now appears in Audacity’s dashboard. Apparently, problem solved.
