Pops and Echo Starts Midway Through Recording then Goes Away

So having a random issue in some recordings. It starts normal, then starts popping and clicking (but the input is not clipping at all) and starts echoing. The echoing gets worse (more of a delay) as the recording goes on. Some of the recordings eventually get back to normal and no issues.

Running Macbook Pro, Audacity 3.7.0. Recording through a XLR to USB cable, to a USB dongle to the Mac. The mac is only running Audacity, not connected to the internet. This is a random issue. It doesn’t happen on every track. Can’t tell when it’s happening until we playback.

Would love some help!

What is the XLR to USB cable, and what it the dongle?

Does the same problem occur if you try recording from the internal mic?

Unfortunately it’s happening on a couple computers. (For my AV company). They all have different dongles and cables. I’ll have to take a look when I can open them. I’ll have to test with the internal mic and let you know.

The thing that might be the issue is the Macbook Pro. I have one that hasn’t had this issue and it’s a 2018, 2.7GHz Quad-Core Intel i7, 16GB Memory and 250GB storage. The ones we’ve had the issues on are 2019, 1.4GHz Quad-Core Intel i5, 16GB Memory and 121GB Storage. The issue definitely seems to happen after long blocks of recording (after 45 minutes or so). Which might be a processor issue, but I could be wrong. Any thoughts on this?

Dongle is a no name dongle. Single USB-C dongle with 2 USB 3.0 ports, one SD card reader, 1 HDMI port, 2 USB-C ports, and ethernet

There is still the “XLR to USB” cable. What is the make and model?

The hub may be introducing delays. Try connecting directly the USB port on the computer.

Does the problem occur when using the internal mic? If not, the problem is with the external components and their interaction with the computer.
