I use Audacity (version 3.71) to record music from You Tube. The recordings made on my old Dell Inspirion 3847 desktop sound great, but on other devices (a 2024 Acer Swift Go16 laptop and my old HP Envy 17-j029nr) they sound flat and muffled. All the recording settings are the same, but I notice that under Audio Settings, the Recording Device for the Dell is “Speakers (High Definition Audio Device) (loopback)”, and for both of my laptops it is either “Speakers (Realtek(R) Audio) (loopback)” or “Stereo Mix (Realtek(R) Audio)”. I’ve tried both, and they both sound bad. There are no other options listed for Recording Device on the Acer or HP computers. I also notice that the volume setting on the Dell does not affect the recording level, whereas if I change the volume settings on the Acer and HP, the recording level changes. I assume that is due to the different Recording Devices.
When I just listen to the music streaming from You Tube, it sounds fine. But the recordings that I make on the Acer or HP don’t sound nearly as good as the streaming audio, or the recordings that I make using the old Dell.
So, does anyone have any ideas as to how I could improve the audio quality of the recordings that I make from You Tube? Any help would be appreciated.
Dells can have 2 layers of “Audio enhancements”.
If you like what the enhancements are doing you need to enable them on your new computer.
