I’ve been using Audacity for a number of years and have in no way utilized its potential. My main business is transferring films, photos, slides and videotapes to a digital format. I occasionally receive requests to transfer reel-to-reel tapes, audio cassettes, 45s, LPs, 78s and phone cassette recordings. I try as best I can to clean up and/or enhance the recordings, but there’s always a little more that I would like to do. All I’m looking for is background noise removal, leveling the volume, ballroom echo removal and any tweaks that will enhance the quality.
The Click Removal effect is a bit of a blunt instrument. If you want to effectively remove clicks without damaging the non-click audio I’ve found it best to zoom in on the clicks, select a bit of audio around the click, then use the Repair effect. This is tedious so you may want to concentrate on the worst clicks.
Removing “ballroom echo” is just about impossible.
