Windows? Which One? We need to build your system in our imagination to figure out what’s going on.
Recording internet sound is not easy.
Computers have two simple sound pathways: Come in from the internet and go to your speakers/headphones; and start from a microphone and go to Audacity for recording. The two pathways don’t easily cross.
It’s possible to record your speaker sound, but that gets tired in a big hurry because you have to leave your speakers turned up to get a good recording.
So people designed software to add a special sound pathway.
This immediately bumps into other software such as Skype, Zoom, Meet, or Multi Player Games that also want to manage sound pathways—and they don’t take no for an answer.
If it is Windows, have you ever done a Clean Shutdown? When you shut down or restart Windows, it doesn’t close everything. It’s possible that software gets left behind and that could be what’s causing the problems.
A Clean Shutdown closes everything and can take longer, but leaves you with a clean, fresh machine to do your jobs.
Save your work and close all your applications.
Method 1 or Method 4.
When shutting down finishes, start the machine, start Audacity, and set it for internet recording. Do Not let anything other than your browser start.
