Audacity does not make any sense

I have been using Audacity for over 10 years. I just got a new computer and installed Audacity. I have turntables and a mixer going out to a stereo 8th inch which converts to a USB. Maddeningly, Audacity will only record audio from the microphone, which is plugged into the mixer, but not records, WHICH ARE PLUGGED INTO THE SAME MIXER! How is that even possible? I can hear both the mic and the record players through the speakers, but audacity only picks up things said into the microphone. It’s n…
