I’m working with Audacity 1.2.5 on a Mac OSX 10.6.8.
I have a wma file from a friend’s digital recorder. The file plays fine on Quicktime. The file is about a bit over an hour of a talk. When I open it with Audacity, it opens, and plays, but it seems to be compressed - when it plays the whole thing comes out as a rush of nonsense sound that lasts only a couple seconds. I tried exporting the file as an mp3, but when I opened it, the result was the same. Is there a way to get this into normal time so it can be edited?
You can install the FFmpeg software and that should solve the screeching sound problem.

Just to be clear, Audacity 1.2 does not recognise FFmpeg, and we can’t offer any help with 1.2 as it is obsolete (please see the pink panel at the top of the page).
You can download the latest Audacity 2.0.5 from Audacity ® | Download for Mac OS and then install FFmpeg as Koz suggested.
