Okay, so I record a track with the mic level set to around 90%.
Monitoring looks fine.
But when I play the track back, with speaker volume set to 90%, it’s so faint, it’s almost impossible to hear.
When I select the “Amplify” option, it gets louder, but it’s accompanied by an even louder noise (deafening static/white noise).
I’m using Audacity 2.3.2 on a PC/Windows.
The thing is, I’ve been using the previous version of Audacity for a couple of years, and I didn’t have this problem. It only came when I installed the new version.
I did a mic check at
https://online-voice-recorder.com/
and that recorded perfectly, so I know there’s nothing wrong with my mic or my computer.
Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?
Thanks
There is a common microphone error, yes.
Post a 10 second WAV of the damaged track on the forum. Or just record 10 seconds and Export WAV.
Scroll down from a forum text window > Attachments > Add Files.

There’s a way to connect the microphone that gives this error. Post a short sound test and we can tell you for sure and how to prevent it.

Okay, so this is the playback volume when I record a track with the mic slider at full:

(I tried to attach these WAV files to this post, but it said they were too big)
When I select Amplify and play back, the volume is fine, although there’s quite a lot of noise (I was able to minimize this somewhat by adjusting the recording volume).
BUT when I record a second track, it either doesn’t record, or the volume is too low to hear it. All I hear is the first track.
Even when I mix and combine to a single track, I still only hear the first track.
Here is a recording of BOTH tracks (combined), with Amplify selected.
You should be able to hear lead guitar (track 2) over this rhythm guitar, but, as I said, it either isn’t there or the volume is too low to hear it (I’m thinking “Amplify” is only working on the first track?)

Any help/advice would be appreciated. I’ve been trying to sort this out for over a week now, without success.
It’s all the more annoying because everything was working perfectly until I upgraded to the latest version (is it possible to go back to the precious version?).
Thanks
