Playback speed change without adjusting pitch?

Hi everyone,

I was super stoked to find an easy playback speed adjuster so I can go through my podcast quickly and edit rather than having to listen at normal speed. However, an issue I’m having is that when I do 1.5x or 2x speed the voice’s pitch changes radically and makes it hard to actually understand what’s being said. Is there a way to make this feature work like when you listen to a YouTube video at 2x speed or when playing a WhatsApp or Telegram message at higher speed where the pitch doesn’t change?

Thanks a lot!

Not yet, though I think there are plans for this eventually (don’t hold your breath )

A possible workaround is to use the “Change Tempo” effect (see: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/change_tempo.html), and then “Ctrl + Z” to undo the effect.

A real-time pitch shifting plugin can do it, e.g. the free version of Graillon2, (which is available in 32 & 64 Bit)

.

Appreciate it! This feature would really be an icing on the top, sort of a luxury thing to be honest so it’s nothing critical. But boy, this would save me a crap ton of time.

Could try the tempo workaround for now, but if I actually forget undoing it before editing I’d have to undo the editing + the temp effect and redo everything which could be pretty painful. Should do the trick, for now, to maybe go through the clips quickly and identify which parts need work.

Thanks again!

Damn that’s nifty, will try it out, thanks a lot!
