Playback [SOLVED]

Which is…?

So the issue is that you see the green playback meters bouncing in Audacity, but can’t hear anything, and Audacity is the only application that has this problem?

Left-click the speaker icon by the system clock, then click Mixer. Play a song in Audacity. Go back to the Windows Volume Mixer and ensure the Audacity slider is turned up and unmuted.

If that does not help, try rebooting the computer.

Solved at last!!. The audacity volume was turned right down to 0 in the mixer.
The only mystery is how it happened as I didn’t know you could access the volume control that way.
For the record the other software was NCH Wavepad. (and it still works but I will now stop using it).
Many thanks to you all for your prompt replies and patience.

It could have happened when you appeared to have selected a host other than MME in Audacity and received an error (-9996 in your first Audio Device Info).

Unless you want to record computer playback with WASAPI host, it may be best to stay with MME host.
