Super newbie question here, my apologies . . . My Audacity settings are: Audio Host (MME), Line Out (Scarlett 212 USB), Line In (Scarlett 212 USB), Recording Channels (2 Stereo). When I record, however, it’s only recording on the left channel. What am I missing? Thank you.
A wild guess: Do you have a microphone plugged into the left channel of the Scarlett and nothing in the right channel of the Scarlett?
Bingo, yes, thank you . . . found the answer here: https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/recording-in-stereo-on-2i2-win-8-1-shure-pg58-usb-input/33679/5
I still haven’t had any success with the “split stereo track to mono” solution. I assume that’s my only option. Again, thanks.
If you set Audacity to record “1 channel (mono)” it will record the left channel (the channel that your mic is plugged into).
The normal way to record a single mic is to record it as a mono track.
A mono track will play back through both left and right speakers equally, unless you “pan” it over to one side or the other (see “pan slider”: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/audio_tracks.html#pan)
Thank you for bearing with me, Steve. That’s the info I needed to run with . . . many thanks!
