Picking sound source from among many

I am using Audacity 2.3.1 on Ubuntu 19.04 from the repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1/audacity. When I try to pick the microphone, I get a very long list of potential sound sources (54 choices to be exact), most of which are not recognisable. I can find my Logitec headphones mic among them, but it’d record volume is extremely low, and and I am unable to find my USB Alesis Mic among them (even though it is there and works perfectly with OBS). After several days of trying to figure this out, I have to give up and ask here if anyone knows how to resolve this and find a working mic among this long list of 54 options.

Thanks for your help.

How many of the sound sources have “USB” in the name?
It may be easier to read the names if you look in the “Audio Device Info” (https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/help_menu_diagnostics.html)
