This functionality seems to come and go at random on my Windows 11 computer. Sometimes I am able to hit the record button, but recording does not begin until I press play on an audio source program such as Winamp or Amazon Music. Then, when the audio source program closes the audio output device, the recording pauses. This is the desired behavior. This is different than using the Transport Option “sound activated recording”. When an audio playback program opens the audio device, Audacity starts recording even if there is silence / no sound playing. Is this a “feature” or a “bug”? Today the feature stopped working for no apparent reason. Any suggestions?
This is not: “Is there sound?” This is: “is there data?”
Audacity will not try to record from a channel that’s not transmitting data. If you have an unstable channel, you get what you got.
