Hello
Im using Audacity 3.1.3..this is a custom built computer running Windows 10 64 bit Intel 3.7 Ghz 32Gb ram 2 Tb local memory..not that I know what any of that means..I
m recording through an Allen and Heath 4 channel mixer with a Shure SM-58 microphone.
I have been using Audacity for some time and Ive had this problem before but I don
t remember how I fixed it…today I tried over dubbing which I have done a lot in the past but not recently…I am almost positive I have all the correct boxes checked and am able to record but when I try to record a 2nd track I get an error 9999 message…when the overdub box is not checked I am able to record normally I just cant hear the 1st track.
Is there anything obvious I may be overlooking ? I could used any suggestions.
Thanks
I need to be quick, but…
Overdubbing is the first time Audacity has to make both the recording and the playback work absolutely, totally perfectly. If either side is messed up, you may get a failure or that hardware error.
Koz
I understand that…was trying to post in the music section but having account issues here…I have overdubbed extensively with Audacity in the past…as far as I know I`m not doing anything different but might have some hidden setting wrong…anything ?
yes…i couldn`t get logged in
Why not? Have you forgotten the password for lonepilgrim?
Which user name would you prefer to use?
i don`t know what happened
it doesnt matter..forrest gump would be better but it
s not important
OK, continue using forrestgump420. The “lonepilgrim” account has now been closed.
In Transport Options, “Overdub” should be enabled and “Software Playthrough” should NOT be enabled.
ive done all that like i said i
ve done a lot of overdubbing in audacity…atm when I hit record the 2nd time i get a message that says " error opening recording device " then it says send or dont sent error report to audacity..i
ve been clicking send
Which version of Audacity are you using? (look in “Help menu > About Audacity”).
Please post your “Audio device info” (see: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/help_menu_diagnostics.html)
I am using Audacity 3.1.3 which as far as I know is the current version…I don`t know how to post the information…when I click the link I get a long dialog box that ask save or cancel…either one closes the box

That`s the best I can do…I am functionally computer illiterate …if you explain anything to me regard to computers you will have to tell me one very small step at a time or I will never get it.
Try selecting “MME” as the “host” in the Device Toolbar, then select the recording and playback devices.
it had already been set that way…i tried Windows Direct sound and WASP which did not work at all
Can anyone help me with this ? Overdub is checked software playthrough not…the record on new track is checked the MME option is selected…I know it`s the weekend but I could use some help. Thanks
I know it`s the weekend
The weekend isn’t the problem. You have something strange.
Describe the microphone, connections, and headphones.
Koz
Im using a Shure SM-58 plugged into a ZEDi [Allen and Heath] 8 channel mixer..as far as I can tell it
s actually 4 channels with extra phone jacks for each channel and a balance control…only 2 channels have 3 pin low impedance connectors…the cables are of good quality…the headphones are Sennheiser HD 280 pro…there is a 1/4 to 1/8 inch adaptor plugged into the mixer for the phones…there is a USB connection from the mixer to the PC
