Overdubbing issue audio overtakes playhead

Hi team,

I’m having trouble with overdubbing. I’m overdubbing voiceover of famous game/series scenes for content. Never used to have a problem. I use the playhead to time myself against the waveform of the video I’m dubbing, at the beginning this works fine. However as I progress further into the recording, I notice the software seems to struggle and stop/start, as a result the recording seems to overtake the playhead, so when I speak, Audacity doesn’t register it in time and becomes out of sync.

What am I doing wrong? Hope I explained that properly.

Many thanks

Every time you do this, you are adding a copy of the audio file to the project file so you can undo the change if you need to. How much free disk space is left on the hard drive your project file is on? If you don’t have much, the system is going to struggle to keep saving changes.

Is the asynchrony uniform, such as a gradual drift in time of the track; or is the asynchrony random?

Thanks for the responses folks! I figured out it was a processing power issue. Realised I was writing the project to my internal HDD which couldnt cut it. Once I cleared out some space and migrated to the internal SSD it worked just fine.
