Original track suddenly much quieter

Hi, so I’m recording an audiobook and I did all the vocals first for various reasons. Anyway, I’m going back and editing, before mastering, editing a WAV file and I’ll open up a second track and be editing a section and when I go to paste it in, even before that, I notice that my original track is suddenly lower, softer. Why?? I look back and it happened to chapter 2 before, also, so I had to go back to my original wav and master that and then it was fine, but somehow this is happening. How? What am I doing?? And also, when I go to paste that edited section into the original track by highlighting the area I want to paste it over… I often get a window saying this section is too big, the section I’ve copied and want to paste in is too big….when it’s definitely not! I’m going crazy here. I’ve got to get this done. Please help!

Check “Editing a clip can move other clips” is ticked …

Thank you so much!

Any thoughts on why my track will suddenly be quieter? While I’m editing the other one…

Accidentally moving the track gain slider ?

or a realtime effect could be active on that track.

Hey! I JUST found an old thread that lists this Very problem and it turns out it was a GLITCH! So that adjusting something on one track would apply the change to All tracks! It was supposedly fixed in 3.7.0 and I don’t know which version I had so I am going back now. Someone (who works on Audacity) actually kept responding and explaining - as more people chimed in about how very annoying the problem was - that it was about to be fixed. I sure hope so! Because it’s been much more than annoying - it’s been damaging all my work! Anyway, thanks again for your time and thoughts! In case that glitch or bug fix is NOT my problem, I will now check out “realitme effect”. Thank you again!! It’s so weird on here….just throwing questions otu to the void….thanks for responding!

Best,

Catherine

If you’ve never used realtime effects it’s not the problem.
