The way I use Audacity is not compatible with the way it automatically keeps my screen active no matter what I’m doing. I also have Logic Pro and it does not prevent the screen from sleeping even with an open project. Please consider adding an option to the settings menu to allow the screen to sleep.

That topic was closed over a year ago and the replies fully blamed the OS.
In reality, I have Logic Pro open with a massive project loaded, and the OS is not preventing my screen saver from launching, so no, it is not solely an unfixable OS behavior. This is an Audacity issue that could be remedied by the developers if they chose to, and I think it’s a worthwhile feature request.

Go back and read the last post on the thread which has a practical solution that works now, without waiting for a feature request.
Yes, it can be manually triggered as a workaround, but my request is about Audacity not holding the screen captive on it’s own. I have grown accustomed to working in a manner where the screen sleeps when I get preoccupied. No other apps I use exhibit this behavior, and it would be nice if Audacity could address it.
Based on reading some other threads, it’s been suggested that this is intentional behavior to prevent losing unsaved work, but it’s simply not an issue on modern OS that a screen-saver, or even full system sleep, causes the project to vanish. A simple toggle in the settings would allow either behavior of your choice.
I, as one that has been asking about this, have since developed my own work-around. My idea accidentally solves a few other issues.
I use Python to blank out most of the screen while Audacity is recording. In that remaining two- square-inch area, I place the record-level meter which shows that audacity is recording. In back of that area I have a python red square that shows if Audacity has crashed. The area shows white if the audio has stopped. There is a small Quit button to turn off the python black screen.
I still have to activate it. I wonder if I can have Python detect inactivity and run its screen-blank program.
Audacity, when recording, continues to prevent me from making any adjustment when the Timer-Record is set.
The room is now dark when recording and, at a glance, I can see if there are any complications.
I would still like to know why all this locking out is necessary.
Audacity has no video content as movies do.
