OPENVINO stops working with every Audacity update

When I installed Audacity 3.6.0, I had to reinstall OpenVino. When I installed Audacity 3.6.1, I had to reinstall OpenVino. Now, with the release of Audacity 3.6.2, they forgot to provide a version of openVino that works with Audacity version 3.6.2!

How long will things continue like this? Indefinitely? Why don’t you developers make an OpenVino plugin that works with all versions of Audacity 3.x.x?

OpenVINO is a module in the technical sense, which reaches deep into Audacity’s own functions to provide its functionality. For that reason, OpenVINO and other modules require a guarantee that Audacity has all the functions it expects, and currently that means compatibility breaks every patch.

In the future, we’d like to get an API going that’s more stable between releases, but until that happens, you’ll need to redownload the plugins for every version.

As for the 3.6.2 plugins being delayed, that’s because Intel are still finishing up the work on it. It’s not been forgotten.

I don’t think the OpenVINO plug-ins are made by Audacity. It looks like they are made by Ryan Metcalfe from Intel.

I think it’s likely to continue like this for as long as Ryan / Intel build this plug-in for Audacity.

A new version of the OpenVINO plug-in for Audacity 3.6.2 is currently being developed.

They didn’t forget. They’re working on it. Some people found that the plug-ins don’t work with 3.6.1, but I got it to work. See: Unable to install OpenVINO Ai Plugin on Audacity 3.6.2 and 3.6.1 - #5 by sefufu
Interesting: when I reverted from 3.6.2 to 3.6.1, the legacy limiter that came with the former was still there.
